Whenever my cousins and I are together we tell or retell stories (which happens a lot) the next line out of someone’s mouth, after we finish laughing, is always… “We need to write a book or document these stories”. Has that ever happened to you? Exactly, it’s always said and nothing is ever done about it. Then we all go about our merry way.
Recently it happened again and I thought to myself, enough talk, I’m going to take a crack at it. Could be a fun project and I love telling stories! Then that hamster wheel in my head got turning and I thought of this novel concept: I’m going to use the power of video and animation to tell these stories! (I felt like Thor raising his hammer to the sky in victory after a long battle) I spent the last few months writing, editing, filming, rewriting, reediting, re-filming… rinse and repeat… I’m starting a series called FoB Nation where I’m telling funny family stories. Today I’m releasing my first video. Yay me!
A little bit about me, I come from a really big family, a really big Egyptian family. As a first generation American / Egyptian and having tons of cousins, aunts, uncles, etc. we have no shortage of funny family stories, either because of cultural differences, generational gaps, language barriers, etc. My family isn’t just big though, they’re fun, loud, loving, welcoming… insert nice adjective here. Seriously though… my family is pretty awesome and the food spread is always ridiculous at family parties too. I know what you’re thinking, what an unbiased and objective opinion. Here’s the kicker… ready for it? We’re not all blood related but we’re such a close family we might as well be. I have Fuzzins, Funcles, Faunts… the “F” stands for fake but it doesn’t really feel that way.
